In honor of Cpl. Matthew T. Richard, USMC, KIA June 9, 2011

While having coffee at McDonalds on highway 171, southbound, in the smallish city/town of Leesville, Louisiana, I observed a young woman wearing a shirt that memorialized her son. She was having lunch with her husband, and two young children, a girl and a boy.

Their son, Cpl. Matthew T. Richard, USMC, a bomb disposal specialist, was killed while clearing an IED.

It was Matthew’s second tour of duty in Afghanistan. He was scheduled to come home less in less than two weeks, having completed his tour of duty.

Words fail me. His family is in my thoughts.
